Mouse Farts in a Wind Tunnel

Last night's dinner

So good it was indescribable. I have never been much of a fish eater, but I am trying to learn new ways. With recipes like this, it won't be hard. I also made my first frittata ever yesterday at lunchtime, and it was mighty tasty. There was enough of that to share a bite with the dogs, but not the snapper.

Game Time, by Roger Angell

A new book by the best baseball writer ever. This interview with him is well worth reading, too. I'm not much of a baseball fan, although I come from a line of them, but reading Angell's work gives me a look into the strange and fascinating mind of a lifelong devotee.

I think I wrote once that baseball in many ways is very much like reading. I said there are more bad books than bad ballgames, or maybe it was the other way around. I can't remember. But each have formal chapters. There are wonderful beginnings that don't stand up and boring beginnings that are great in the end. You just don't know. They're both, baseball and reading, for people who aren't afraid of being bored.
The Old Folks Behind Home

A piece from 1962 about spring training in the old days. Read it and cherish it -- Roger Angell is a national treasure.

I had a critical e-mail melt-down last night. It would be amazing if it weren't so annoying. I was very tired, and clicked the wrong thing. After that, I could only watch as everything disappeared -- the inbox, the mail in the stored folders, the account itself on my mail reader. Nothing I did could restore any of it.Wow. At least I know that works, just in case the FBI is ever breaking the door down. Not that that's likely to happen. I'm just sayin', you know?
